From the recording Remind Me To Not Be Afraid

Lyrics

When we speak with the serpent, we doubt God’s word
In subtle but significant ways
Did God really say that? He gets us to question it
Then we do what we wanted anyway

When we speak with the serpent
We follow our selfish desires
The forbidden fruit becomes all that we think about
And we gravitate towards what we focus on

When we speak with the serpent, we hide from God
And we suddenly become aware of our nakedness
We’re filled with shame; we wallow in regret
And still God continues to pursue us

When we speak with the serpent
We begin to blame others
Instead of raising our hand and admitting our fault
Why are we so quick to point a finger?

When we speak with the serpent, we move under the curse
WE are not cursed, but this world is
When we believe our own lies, we choose a system
A cursed system or an open heaven?

When we speak with the serpent
We view God’s protection as punishment.
But His love is abundant, His grace astronomic
His Word will protect us from the serpent
